How to Stay Cool for the Summer

As a girl from a dry, hot place I know how much of a struggle the summer can bring. As much fun as it is, it can be not so much fun when it comes to dealing with how hot it can get. As a fellow girl, I wanted to provide some useful tips on how to deal with the summer heat, all while having fun on your break off.

My first tip is one that I think is the most important, stay hydrated! Many girls can forget this and if you are not drinking enough water then you could pass out from dehydration. An important rule of thumb is to drink half of your body weight in ounce of water. If you follow this step you should stay cool and hydrated all summer long. Another rule to add on to this, if you are a girl like me who cannot function without her coffee, be sure to add more water onto your tally to compensate for all that caffeine you are consuming.

My second tip is just as important, don’t wear skin tight clothing. As the weather warms up a lot of girls can turn to tighter, shorter clothes which is fine, but this can cause yeast infections in return. Dresses are a nice alternative for the warmer weather and they don’t cause the harmful consequences that tight clothes can. Speaking of yeast infections, another contributor to this painful infection is your underwear. When you are deciding what to wear each day, try to pick out cotton underwear or underwear with a cotton lining inside. These two coupled together can help prevent yeast infections so on your date you aren’t worried about that itch.

My third tip is sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. I cannot stress how important this is. Although many girls are blessed with a tan like no other, not wearing sunscreen can cause the UV Rays to damage your skin leading to possibly skin cancer down the road. Wearing a lower SPF can allow you to get tan all while protecting your skin as well. Another alternative that is always available is to get a spray tan. This allows you to look sun-kissed without the hassle of damaging your skin in the long run.

My final tip is to look after your health. Summer time can bring a lot of outdoor fun activities, but it can also bring about a lot of unhealthy sticky sweets. Cotton candy, ice cream, and burgers thrive in this environment and while it is okay to splurge every now and again moderation is key. To help balance out those extra calories you may consumer, it is always wise to get outdoors and try something new. Summer brings about fun activities from swimming to rock climbing, there is something for everyone. Stay active.
